God
We believe in one God—Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit—who made the world good and created all people in God’s image. God loves every person and all creation. Even when humanity turns away in sin and brokenness, God remains faithful, working for healing, justice, and peace.
(Brief Statement of Faith; Confession of 1967)
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, fully human and fully divine. He proclaimed God’s reign, stood with the poor and excluded, healed the broken, and showed us what God’s love looks like in everyday life. He suffered under the powers of this world, was crucified, and died. God raised him from the dead, breaking the power of sin and death and opening the way to new life.
(Apostles’ Creed; Nicene Creed; Brief Statement of Faith)
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the giver and renewer of life. By grace through faith, the Spirit forgives sin, makes us new, and sets us free. The Spirit gathers the church into one body, inspires the Scriptures, claims us in baptism, and sends us into the world to love our neighbors, seek justice, and work for reconciliation.
(Brief Statement of Faith; Confession of 1967)
Scripture
We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by the Holy Spirit and faithfully point us to Jesus Christ. Through Scripture, God speaks to us today—guiding our faith, challenging our assumptions, and calling us to lives shaped by love and hope.
(Second Helvetic Confession; Brief Statement of Faith)
Salvation
We believe salvation is God’s gift of grace, not something we earn. Through faith in Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit, God delivers us from sin and death, reconciles us to God and one another, and promises new and lasting life—beginning now and fulfilled in God’s future.
(Scots Confession; Brief Statement of Faith)
The Sacraments
In the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), we celebrate two Sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Sacraments are visible signs of God’s invisible grace—means by which God nourishes faith, strengthens the church, and draws us more deeply into the life of Christ (Book of Order, W-3.0401; Westminster Shorter Catechism, Q. 92).
Baptism is the sign of God’s covenant love and welcome. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we are claimed by God, united with Christ, and incorporated into the body of Christ (W-3.0402; Second Helvetic Confession 5.169–5.173). Because baptism is God’s gracious act, we baptize people of all ages, including infants. Baptism is received once and is a lifelong sign of God’s promise.
The Lord’s Supper is a meal of remembrance, thanksgiving, and hope. As we share bread and cup, we proclaim Christ’s saving work and trust in Christ’s real spiritual presence through the power of the Holy Spirit (W-3.0405; Scots Confession 3.21). The table is open to all who seek to follow Jesus, because the table belongs to Christ, not to the church (W-3.0409).
Through these Sacraments, God forms us in faith, binds us together in love, and sends us into the world to live out Christ’s compassion, justice, and peace.
The Church
We believe the church is the body of Christ, called into being by the Holy Spirit. The church exists to worship God, share the good news, nurture faith, serve all people, and work for justice, reconciliation, and peace in the world God loves.
(Confession of 1967; Brief Statement of Faith)
Our Core Confession
With Christians in every time and place, we affirm:
In life and in death, we belong to God.
Trusting in God’s grace made known in Jesus Christ, we live in hope, confident that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
(Brief Statement of Faith; Romans 8)
